Born to exhausted Indian immigrants on a mild, summer eve, Seela had an average childhood battling the forces of evil with her superhuman strength.

On quality meals of Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, The Muppets, David Bowie, & Julia Child, Seela marinated and flourished, eventually topping off at  5’3″. As a young, wandering adult, Seela met her lifelong “people” in Austin’s close-knit music community via open mics at the legendary Cactus Cafe and Chigaco House.

Since then she has sung back-up, collaborated with and cracked wise among musical heavyweights from Austin and beyond, sharing the stage with those such as Freedy Johnston, Sean Hayes, Anthony da Costa, Shinyribs, and Matt the Electrician. Her decades of shows in the Live Music Capitol serve as master classes on performing, orchestrating, and bandleading. She is a perpetual student who uses her vast knowledge and experience to make it all look easy.

Seela’s upcoming release, “Cool”, is self-produced and her best yet.  With Austin’s most exquisite players, lyrically brilliant and melodic songs, gorgeous harmonies, lush orchestration, each of the thirteen tracks are their own world beautifully pulled together in orbit. To celebrate the album, Seela home-made animated lyric videos which were played in track order for a lockdown release party.

Seela is also a painter, illustrator, potter, graphic designer, and has a small, bread-baking business. In her free time she likes to invent cocktails and watch tv on the couch with her dreamy, drummer husband Jon Greene and their magical dog, Liza Minnelli.

“…stark, ofttimes sexy,…Seela’s voice is her main calling card, soft & inviting,...” –The Austin Chronicle

At this point, Seela is almost synonymous with Austin music. ...undeniable vocal talent.” – KUTX 98.9, Studio 1A

“…she possesses an appealing, slightly raspy alto that conveys both vulnerability and strength. And she has written a first-rate batch of songs. They’re melodic and hook-filled...Seela was born in Canada to Indian immigrants and has long been based in Austin, Texas. She’s well known there but deserves a wider audience for her considerable God-given talents.”  -Steven Wine, Associated Press
